Kinderpornographie ist böse. Abscheulich. Bestrafenswert. So weit so schlecht. Da sind wir uns einig.

Seit 2008 diskutiert man in unserem Lieblingsnachbarland (D) daher angeregt die Für und Widers sogenannter Netzsperren. Wer den medialen Rummel darüber via hierzulande etablierter Privatsender mitverfolgte, kennt aber den nunmehr wortgewordenen Erguss dieser Debatten – im Amtsdeutsch liebevoll >> Zugangserschwerungsgesetz << genannt und seit Februar 2010 in Kraft.
Pikantes Detail am Rande: unmittelbar nach Inkrafttreten wies das Bundesinnenministerium das BKA per Verordnung an, nun doch keine Sperrlisten zu erfassen. Vorerst. Wurde man hellhörig?

Das Internet sollte frei sein. Unbeschränkt. Unzensiert. So weit so gut. Doch real?

Wir sollten uns fragen, ob in diesem Fall wirklich Kriminalitätsbekämpfung das (politische) Hauptziel ist. Denn in Hamburg etwa teilen sich 1.450 Kriminalpolizisten gerade mal 60 Rechner– die Armen! Eine Horrorvision für jeden Normaluser. Und wie viele kümmern sich um die Kinderpornos? 30. Allerdings im gesamten BKA. Deutschlandweit. Netzsperren als einziger Ausweg gegen Kinderpornos? Oder schafft man hier nun “rein vorsorglich” Möglichkeiten für ein Vorgehen, dass uns eigentlich nur aus Ländern wie China offiziell bekannt ist?

KONCEPT recently met with french/senegalese DJ Klaus Samo at his residence in Lausanne.
Here is what we found out about his journey from punk to electro and why the former Parisian trash it-boy needed to move to “lame” Switzerland to re-grasp the vibes of the underground…

How did you get your foot into the music business as a DJ and producer?
I started DJing and producing electro because it’s easier than having a band.
See, when you have a band, playing live is great but so much work. when you DJ, you got the same kind of attention with basically passing records. And I looooove the attention! [laughing]

So… I’ve been a musician for a while, actually coming from a mostly garage-punk-dirty-sweaty-drunky background: I got an album out with my previous band, been playing concerts in the French punk scene, mostly in the Paris.
Besides my solo projects I recently started a new band with a friend of mine, Johnny SR. It’s a mix of industrial rock, punk and electro-trash. We’re getting our tunes from scratch with guitars, drum sequencers and analog synths. It’s loads of fun to play, hopefully you guys will like it too!

Fair enough. And how would you describe your sound then?
My sound is more or less just crude noise. I’m getting a bit bored of all the microwave electro where it’s only big distortion and rhythm, no melody.
So I’m trying to get something a bit melodious while staying completely dirty.
Lately, I’ve started using real instrument again for producing electro, instead of just synth and computer. It’s still really violent, really rough, with as little work as possible on each track. I’m really trying to have a no good scum punk atmosphere to my sound. It’s not for all ears though!

Who would you say had the biggest influence on your style?
My influence… I’d say suicide, sonic youth, some trojan ska, some roots reggae like Dr. Alimantado. I love the liars and ex models, A.R.E.Weapons and bands of the like… the all 3oneG scene from San Diego… loads of all school punk, No-wave, and shit loads of roots and dub.
In electro my top 10 would be – not in that order: Goose, Borgore, Proxy, Fuck offf, Skrillex, Mendel, Haezer, Duty Freak – gotta name my friends, Doctor P, Propatingz… many more actually, I’m not sure if that’s even an accurate top 10.

Your travels have taken you quite a bit around the world.
Where would you say is the best place to party/play?
The best club? Definitely ‘the Caves’ in Mahon, Menorca. It’s in a cave inside a cliff. You’re rocking with the crowd and there’s a 100ft drop straight down just there. Amazing ambiance, amazing everything.
Ibiza and Palma are quite fun to party too. I’m from Paris and I love this city, so I’ll say Social Club, Showcase and Yono – the best Mojitos!
My all time favorite is still the Caribbean though. Nothing like a couple of American girls at 5am on Pidgeon beach after a night of -what happens in Antigua, stays in Antigua- at the Abracadabras Club.

Now living in Lausanne as well as Paris, what are the biggest cultural differences scene wise?
I’ll only say one thing – swiss people are lame… still, there are a few good places and a nice, what you call underground scene.
In contrast to Paris, where this has become more or less a hype thing with an arty-mainstream touch. Here you can still find people with a genuine marginality, creating a genuine original scene.

Maybe some advice for any other upcoming producers out there?
Seriously? Well, to all new producers: Don’t start.
There’s already way to many people whose interpretation of “doing music” is raping a cracked version of Fruity Loops. Learn an actual instrument, learn music, have jam sessions, create bands, analog music, that’s where the fun is!
Don’t just do like everybody else, find something new. Don’t even bother if it’s just to “sound like” somebody, neither if it’s just for the sake of being different.
